SharePoint Upgrade with New Development Environment for Global Leader in Stage Lighting

Overview

ETC is a global leader in the manufacturing of lighting and rigging technology with more than 1,000 employees across 10 countries. The company maintains a culture of expertise that depends on the expert talents of its employees. The knowledge-sharing required is a requirement for ETC’s industry leadership position—and even more so as it grows both organically and through a recent acquisition.

That culture of excellence requires convenient and effective information-sharing across ETC’s computer systems. As ETC’s existing internal sharing portal aged, the company’s information technology leaders recognized a need for an upgrade that would improve the look and feel of the site, improve collaboration, and position the system for future enhancements.

Solution

ETC’s SharePoint 2010 on-premises system was aging out of usefulness and supportability. ETC’s IT team contacted Concurrency to partner with them on the project to upgrade the system to SharePoint 2016.

The ETC team included business analysists and technologists. Concurrency brought experience and expertise across several fields, with team members on the project including a user experience engineer, a business analyst, a SCRUM master, and SharePoint consultants. Working closely with the ETC team, we addressed needed re-architecting the information architecture to establish excellent scalability and a solid foundation for new features added both during this project and in the future.

One especially important new feature addressed in this project was a development environment in which ETC’s IT team could test new features before rolling them out to production.

Another key focus was branding. We helped ETC rebrand through a collaborative process that resulted in a site that met the company’s needs while also reflecting its culture.

Results and Next Steps

Throughout the entire project, we applied an AGILE methodology to ensure a smooth process that addressed the wide range of needs relating to this complex project that covered several months.

The result was smooth process and implementation achieved on budget and with minimal downtime. In the future, ETC may build on this new foundation in areas such as Office 365 and business process workflows.
