Wonderware Midwest Deploys Lync 2013; Seamless Cutover to a New Phone System

Summary

Wonderware Midwest decided to replace an old T1 line phone system, including an upgrade to a new SIP trunk. As part of this project, Wonderware requested assistance from Concurrency to ensure success in the deployment and rollout to users of Lync 2013 (now Skype for Business) for better integration with the firm’s Microsoft Systems, including Office 365 and for improved features.

Wonderware Midwest sought to ensure the changeover to the new system would be seamless, including proper functioning of the auto-attendant features. The company also needed assistance setting up new voice routing menus.

Solution

Working closely with the Wonderware Midwest team, we took a phased approach. Starting about two weeks before the cutover to the new phone trunks on the back end, we got users up and running on Lync to give them time to become familiar with the features and interface. To further ensure a smooth rollout, we brought in a test phone line prior to the cutover so users could test phones prior to the change.

As we prepared for deployment, we customized the Lync system in order to deliver a custom call-looping feature that Wonderware wished to carryover from its prior system. We were able to meet these needs without the purchase of a third-party call center utility.

On the day of the cutover, we transferred the old phone line from the former telco carrier to Time Warner Cable on the new SIP trunk platform. We activated a new AudioCode gateway to serve as the voice termination point for Lync 23013. Given thorough preparation and careful testing, the cutover process was quick and seamless.

“Concurrency delivered a top notch quality technical solution with an equally qualified staff,” said Jake Bingen, Network Engineer, Wonderware Midwest. “Concurrency has been our go-to company for years so choosing them for the Lync migration project was an easy decision.”
